Happy Girl Scout Day

If you haven’t noticed, there are Girl Scout Cookies everywhere! Not that we are complaining! Whether you are a fan of Thin Mints or the delicious coconut taste of Samoas, there’s a cookie for everyone. In case you aren’t familiar with their history, in 1912, Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low organized the first meeting in Savannah, Georgia. Since then, the Girl Scouts has grown into an amazing organization that empowers young women with over 3.7 million members. This Tuesday, March 12th is National Girl Scout Day and below you’ll find a list of ways you can celebrate!

1. Buy Some Cookies - That’s right, get out there and buy a box of cookies or ten! We love this because 100% of the money from the sales goes back into the organization, usually funding the girl’s trips and camps. Plus, all the money you spend stays local. This means instead of the funds going to Girl Scouts HQ, your money is helping directly support your community. It’s a win for everyone!
2. Spend the Day with Your Girl Scout - Even if you’re daughter or niece isn’t a Scout, it doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate the day with her. The Girl Scouts is all about empowering young women, so take this day to let them know how special they are and that they can change the World! Pick a fun activity, maybe plant a tree or garden, teach her how to fish, or learn about the local flora, fauna and wildlife at a park together.
3. Create Your Own Girl Scout Badges - Chances are if you’re reading this, you are probably too old to join the Girl Scouts. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t create your own badges! Create different sets of badges to challenge yourself and meet new goals. Have you wanted to learn to kayak or rock climb, but feel intimidated by the challenge? Create a set of Outdoor Explorer badges that includes Hiking, Kayaking, Camping, Fishing, and Climbing. You’ll find new hobbies and will be looking for new challenges before you know it!
